Groupe La Poste // CSR REPORT 2022
Improving climate resilience 5 WORKING TO ACCELERATE ENVIRONMENTAL TRANSITION FOR ALL ■
■ By 2025, the Services-Mail-Parcels business unit will invest 400 million euros to convert its heavy-duty vehicle fleet to low carbon energy sources and support its 600 partner carriers in their transition. As part of this effort, it has made a strong commitment: by 2030, thanks to the gradual conversion of road transport, 50% of the kilometers traveled by La Poste in France will be done using low-carbon heavy-duty vehicles. ■ GeoPost has set up a “carbon budget” process to ensure compliance with its trajectory. Annually, each business unit establishes its carbon budget and validates it in the Finance Committee. A mid-year review makes it possible to adjust budgets and validate alignment with the trajectory. The annual assessments
allow comparisons between business units for continuous improvement and more details in the preparation of the next forecasts. La Poste Groupe’s response to the requirements of the European Green Taxonomy is presented in Section 4.3.6 “Meeting the requirements of the European Union’s Green Taxonomy” of La Poste Groupe’s 2022 URD (p. 178 et seq .). The decarbonisation plan for transport activities aims to transform activities to improve the rate of alignment of the group’s activities with the criteria of the European green taxonomy.
5.1.2 Climate-related impacts, risks and opportunities TCFD 1.b, 2.a, 2.b, 2.c, 3.a, 3.b, 3.c, 4.a The Climate/TCFD Committee carried out the work to identify and assess climate risks and build climate scenarios. The group has drawn up its climate risk and opportunity map presented below. three strategic climate scenarios in order to vary their impact and intensity according to the conditions of realisation of the risks and based on two extreme scenarios:
The climate risks have been identified and assessed using the group’s general risk mapping method. It relies on the involvement of all the business units and the main medium-sized subsidiaries (Véhiposte and La Poste Immobilier) and expertise in CSR, risks, financial control, forecasting and research, etc. The mapping of La Poste Groupe’s climate risks and opportunities has identified ten transition risks (mitigation phase), four physical risks (adaptation phase) and seven opportunities. Based on an impact and probability analysis, the Climate/TCFD Committee prioritised two transition risks, three adaptation risks and one opportunity. The three adaptation risks are integrated into The group’s main means of mitigating its environmental footprint is to optimise energy use and improve the energy efficiency of its activities, in an effort to set an example. The group focuses its action plans on its industrial and logistics organisation, the nature and rational use of its means of transport and its real estate assets, as well as on its digital footprint (1) and responsible purchasing (2) . Its bancassurance activity is also a lever for accelerating the transition (3) . 5.1.3.1 Optimising transport and logistics activities Industrial and logistics scheme The Services-Mail-Parcels business unit optimises its transport patterns based on short- and longer-term flow modelling (3/5/8 years). The group aims to adapt its industrial facilities and optimise the large volumes handled by the Services-Mail-Parcels business unit, to make each kilometre travelled as efficient as possible. In this respect, the group aims to pool links with all of its entities as much as possible to reduce unnecessary kilometres.
■ RCP 8.5 IPCC – The status quo scenario, no significant effort is made to limit GHG emissions. This scenario represents the trend followed by humanity until today; ■ RCP 2.6 IPCC – Strong GHG mitigation scenario, representative of the scenario aiming to limit global warming below 2°C. A summary of the climate-related risks and opportunities can be found in Chapter 4, Section 4.4.1 “TCFD”, of the Universal Registration Document, page 184-186.
5.1.3 Actions and resources mobilised in the fight against climate change TCFD 2.c, 4.b
In its strategic plan “La Poste 2030, committed for you”, the group positions itself as the leader in green delivery in France and Europe. La Poste Groupe has set itself the target of ensuring 100% clean delivery (zero and low emissions) in 350 cities in Europe, including 22 French metropolitan areas, by 2025. The group acceleration plan (GAP) for “urban logistics” should enable the group to increase its leadership position in the French and European markets in urban centres, by pre-empting the acceleration of delivery flows in same-day delivery or in selected niches and as part of low-carbon delivery, mainly for parcels. In 2021, the launch of this GAP enabled the launch of a cyclo-logistics plan and the adoption of a first urban logistics agreement with Toulouse. In 2022, 14 new cities and metropolises joined: Bordeaux, Lyon, Lille, Paris, Montpellier, Brest, Clermont-Ferrand, Le Havre, Grenoble, Tours, Aix-Marseille. In pursuit of decarbonization goals, in addition to delivery methods, the group has developed a low-emission fleet by incorporating 21 natural gas vehicles (NGVs) and deploying 20 electric 16-ton vehicles, as well as 200 cargo bikes.
