A commercial acquirer also underwrites the credit quality and integrity of the merchant, because the acquirer is required to refund the amounts paid to the issuing bank, if a merchant does not deliver the goods to the end-customer. To be an acquirer, a company must hold the license of “payment institution”. Worldline is a licensed payment institution in the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
