NON-CASHTRANSACTIONS INEUROPE (IN BILLION TRANSACTIONS)
These newbehaviors generate significant growth in non-cash payments
Non-cash payment transactions have grown significantly in recent years, and this growth is expected to accelerate as electronic transactions increasingly displace cash and cheques. According to A.T. Kearney, the number of non-cash transactions in the European Union has grown at an annual rate of 6% over the last ten years. A.T. Kearney also estimates that this growth rate will accelerate to 7% per year from 2020 through to 2025, reaching 238 billion transactions. The rise in contactless payments is a significant move towards electronic means replacing cash for low value transactions. For example, in the first half of 2017 the amount spent using contactless in the UK was £ 23.23 bn, compared to £ 25 billion for the whole of 2016 and 1 out of three card payments is now contactless (Source: UK Finance).
