Secondary safety: protection during an accident The Laboratoired’Accidentologie,de Biomécaniqueet d’Étude du comportementhumain (LAB) is a road safety associationcreated jointly by Groupe PSAand Renault. Unique in its kind, LAB has conducted, since 1969, research projects (28,332 accidentsin its database)to enhanceunderstandingof accidentmechanismsand their related injury mechanisms. Groupe PSA is primarily working in two areas: chassis and body structure: to makethe passengercompartment n a real survivalcell byreducingstrain andintrusion; airbags and restraint systems: to ensurea reductionin the impact n on occupants in crashesthroughsophisticated restraintsystems. TheLAB is at the serviceof RoadSafetysince1969andhas pointed out that the numberof road fatalitieshas decreasedin France by some80% within the last 50 years. Tertiary safety: post-accident emergency response Groupe PSAhas playeda pioneeringrole and remainsthe European leader in post-accidentor tertiarysafety, which helps to attenuate the effects of an accidentby facilitatingemergencyrescue in two ways: emergency call system : implementing the devices before n Europeanregulation PE/112comes into effect on 30 March2018, the Group is the only mainstreamcar manufacturerto have deployedsince2003a wide-scale, location-aware mergencycall system, without a subscription or any cut-off date and operational24/7.In the eventof an accidentin an ATB-equipped vehicle, the system automaticallyalerts a dedicatedassistance centre that can accuratelylocate the vehicle. In case of medical emergencyor aggression, the occupantscan manuallyalert the assistancecentre. This saves time and allows for more effective assistance to be provided. According to the European Commission, equippingevery vehicle on the road with such a system would save more than 2,500 lives a yearin Europe; victim removal instructions and rescue sheets: to facilitatethe job n of first respondersafter a casualty, the Groupworkswith French rescue teams to preparevictimremovalinstructionsfor each of its models.Meanwhile,Groupe PSAsteeredISOworkon defining an internationalstandard for victim removal instructions. This standardhas beenapplicablesinceJanuary 2015andwill become an international standard. Cybersecurity of theconnected vehicles Faced with the emergence of new threats linked to malicious attacks on vehicle computer systems (hacking), Groupe PSAhas introducedoperating safety guidelines and a set of procedures, togetherwith a specialoperatingsafetyorganisation, basedon the work of a group of experts who are also working on drafting internationalstandardson operatingsafetyand personaldata such as the General Data Protection Regulation (see 2.3.2.2). The organisationis tasked with compilingimmediateresponsesin the event that risks are detectedat the designstage, or by customers on existing vehicles, and with constructing a secure onboard electronicarchitecturefor futureGroupvehicles, beginningwith the driverlessconnectedvehicle. The Group is in particularinvolvedin researchwork on transportsafety(IRT SystemX)to definesecurity solutions.

External assessment To supplementthe supplierassessmentsystemand make it more robust, the Group undertookto assess its entire supplier base on the basis of environmental, social, ethical and sustainable procurement.Groupe PSAhas chosento entrustthis evaluationto an externalprovider,EcoVadis. An initialstephas helpedidentifying supplierrisksto a greaterdegree. The Group informedits suppliersthat this processis mandatoryif they wish to remainin the supplybase and that suppliersfailingto achieve the required level would be systematicallyexpected to implement corrective actionplans. In 2018, 1,507 suppliergroups,or 95% of the amountof purchases, were assessed. Auditsof critical suppliers In addition, social and environmental audits are conducted at selected suppliers’ plants in accordance with the risk level associated with their country, product or process. Since 2008, 98 socialand environmentalauditshave been performedat tier 1, 2 or 3 suppliers. Chapter 6.2.3.5of the CSR Report presents the results oftheseauditsin detail. The safetyof eachindividualroaduserhas alwaysbeenthe primary priorityof Groupe PSA. At all stages of the vehicle lifecycle,Groupe PSAimplementsand maintains aglobalstate-of-the-art safety approach. TheGroupis continuously improvingthreeaspectsof vehiclesafety: primary, secondaryand tertiary. It is also carryingout vital workon the vehicleresistanceto intrusionand new threats linked to cyber security ofthe connected vehicle. Response to road safety problems is based not only on the introductionof increasinglysophisticatedsafety systems onboard vehicles. Roadway infrastructuremust also be upgraded, while motoristsand otherroadusersmustbe effectivelyeducatedin safe driving and road use practices. The systems describedbelow, as well as the results, are shown in greaterdetail in section 5.1of the CSR Report. Primary safety: avoiding accidents Groupe PSAdevelopsdevicesto improve: chassis systems, suchas Tyre Pressure Monitoring System; n control of trajectory and safety distances systems, such as n Adaptive Cruise Control and AutonomousEmergencyBraking System; systemsto better perceiveand be perceived, such as Adaptive n ForwardLighting(including IntelliLux LED Matrixheadlights); ergonomicsand HumanMachineInterface, such as the i-cockpit. n The launchof the newPeugeot208 in October 2019has revealed for the first time in the automotiveindustrya 3D effect cluster, which hasbeen praisedby criticsandcustomers.
